The activity was carried out on a day tagged “Charity Day”. This activity is in line with the SDG 1 aimed at tackling poverty. The students of the school came in with various items ranging from food and clothing, to household items like detergent, toilet paper and bath soap. The collected items were packed into bags. Selected students accompanied by members of staff, distributed the packed items to the beneficiaries at three different locations within the communities

1. To promote peace and unity.
2. To make our students actively involved in showing support to displaced/less privileged families within their communities

1. To have established the concept of reaching out to those in need in their community.
2. To have sensitized them on peaceful co-existence.

  1. Song presentation (video).
  2. Presentation of charity items (videos and pictures).

I loved the fact that I was making a difference in the lives of others through this program by contributing food items. I enjoyed working with my classmates as a team to achieve the goal.

It helped to open my eyes to various societal issues and taught me about having empathy towards others that are less privileged or in distress.

What I enjoyed least was the fact that my classmates and I couldn’t sell items to serve as a fundraiser to get more for charity due to lack of time.

I would like for us to hold a fundraiser which would also involve the immediate community, where the school is located, to get more funds for charity.

YEAR GROUP: 14 – 16

DATE: 08 – 12 – 2023

The students, through this activity, have been able to establish that the less privileged and displaced need the empathy and charity from well-placed members of their community to survive the hard times they face. Coming in contact with these individuals and families, and seeing the poor conditions they live in has brought about a better understanding of being charitable.

Being involved in organising and carrying out the activity, has made me more appreciative of the good things of life I currently enjoy. Equally, our coming in contact with some beneficiaries of the activity and interacting with them has formed in us the need to carry out more activities like this in order to help the less privileged in our community and put smiles on their faces

This activity has awakened the need for the school to be more generous and charitable, in a bid to
alleviate the current situation of both the less privileged and displaced members of the community the
school is situated in. The school recognises their plight and hopes to do better by carrying out the activity through the help of parents and students of the school consistently.

The most effective part was the involvement of the Year 11 students in the distribution of the collated items. Their visit to the displaced people’s camp has impacted them positively with the understanding
of lending a helping hand to the poor and the needy. The least effective part was not being able to take the students to visit the orphanage because of time constraint

For the next time, an activity like this is planned, it is hoped that the students will be able to hold a fundraiser in order to raise a good amount of funds towards a more elaborate ‘Charity day’.

It has made them more charitable towards the needy, they are eager for more charity days to be organized by the school.

It has made me more sympathetic toward the plight of the less privileged in our community. Going forward I intend to be more charitable towards the less privileged and displaced people.

It has made the school more conscious of the less privilege people around them and seeking ways to be of help.

To get more people involved like NGO’s or companies around the community.

My child now understands that there are many people in our society that are less privileged and we can help to put a smile on their faces with our charity works.

My child now understands that it is important for me to provide for my children and ensure that they get quality education so that they can live a meaningful and fulfilling life.

For this activity to have a greater impact in the society, the items contributed should include books, writing materials to help the children of the lass privileged in their academic pursuit.

This activity should be done quarterly so that it can have an even greater impact on the students to become more charitable.
